The Program

Beginning in March, the lecture Series for Mat, Reformer, Cadillac, Barrel, and Chair is introduced. Then for the following four weeks students will join in a lab group that will break down the fundamentals of the exercises. During lab sessions, students refine the exercises in the body and explore how to teach the Pilates exercises. The last week of April, students take a Beginning/Level I physical and written test. Lab continues on regular schedule where intermediate Reformer, Chair and Cadillac are refined.

Students continue self-practice, until the arrival of our Teacher of Teachers, Susan Powers who trained through The Pilates Center in Boulder, Colorado. Susan trains here at Push Pilates for seven full days, in May, 9:00am-6:00pm. This part of the training is mandatory. If any portion of this training is not attended, student must take it over the following year at an additional cost to the student.

During the months of May, June, and July Intermediate lab is continued where exercises are broken down and integrated in the body. Teaching the exercises is explored further. At the end of July, the students take an Intermediate/Level II physical and written test. During August we continue lab time, working with the Advanced Work. We discuss special problems such as Scoliosis, Lordosis and Kyphosis. Any loose ends will be tied up at this point.

The second semester begins in September. During the self-study and continuation of the internship months, teachers in training continue to self-practice weekly, study for the exam, observe, assist group classes, and begin working through their student teaching hours. A true understanding of the work only develops through a gradual progression. Self-practice is imperative. Students must not fall behind. Students are required to check in twice a month with their advisor.

The final examination process consists of a written exam, a performance exam, and interns must teach an Advanced Mat class to six or more students. The physical and written test are given mid May 2008. All "Advance Mat Class" teaching, student teaching, observation, self-practice, and group assist classes must be scheduled and completed by March 31, 2008. Full Teacher Training, 200 Hours, must be completed by September 30, 2008.
